About Me
I began having Alexander lessons after learning
about a scientific study published in the British Medical Journal. This study, led by the University of Southampton, demonstrated that the Alexander Technique is a very effective way of dealing with back pain. I had an overall history of chronic low back pain, and at that time my pain was acute.
Within a few weeks of lessons, my pain was gone and has not returned. I was inspired by the Technique and what it could offer, and so I trained with Ron Colyer for 3 years as an Alexander Teacher at the Alexander
Re-education Centre. I have assisted teaching Alexander Technique for actors at CityLit
in London, the Arts Ed
performing arts school in London and with musicians at the Royal College of Music, London. I have also undertaken postgraduate work with Nelly Ben-Or MBE, a Senior Alexander Teacher.
For me, the skills I have learnt that have manifested physically in the loss of back pain, are transferable and have led to a greater feeling of wellbeing.
I use Alexander Technique skills every day in my life as they’ve become second nature. As well as teaching the Alexander Technique, I play the bassoon in Salisbury Concert Band. I am also currently learning euphonium at Downton Band. In 2021, I completed an MSc in Applied Positive Psychology at Bucks New University. For my dissertation, graded a distinction, I researched embodied movement practices (like the Alexander Technique) and their beneficial effects on self-compassion. You can see a short video of me being interviewed about it at Alexander Studies Online.
I am a fully-qualified and insured Member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique
and abide by their Code of Professional Conduct and Professional Competence. I am also registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council and abide by their Code of Conduct, Ethics and Performance.
