In their Words ...
"I started having AT lessons with Lisa a year ago, having suffered from increasing neck and shoulder pain for a very long time as a result of desk working, poor posture and mild scoliosis.
It is difficult to describe what AT is. It’s probably easier to say what it is not: it’s not painful or uncomfortable, no medicine or surgery is involved; no special clothes or equipment are needed. It is ‘hands on’ but it’s not massage or manipulation and it’s not embarrassing in any way. Rather, Lisa explains every step as she patiently and carefully guides you as you learn how to allow your body to free itself from bad habits and realign in a better way.
Now 12 months on, I am more conscious of how I stand, sit and move; my posture has improved; and the pain that I used to suffer almost continuously is only occasional and is much less severe. I leave every lesson feeling taller than I did when I arrived.
I have no hesitation in recommending both AT and Lisa." Heather P, Salisbury
Using the Alexander Technique has made a huge difference to me in overcoming pain and discomfort. I fully recommend Lisa’s A.T. sessions. ” Jacqui G, Durrington
“Finding Lisa.....
I have lived with pain in my joints for as long as I can remember due to having hypermobility syndrome. I was sceptical at first about the Alexander technique but was willing to give anything a try and Lisa reassured me that it was about me learning to use my skeleton and body as it is meant to be used, thus putting the least amount of stress on any part of it. Lisa was very patient, gentle and calm as she taught me. By lesson 3 and as much practice in between of “Stop, think, Alexander,” the pain in my thigh was subsiding. By lesson 7 it had gone. I’m waiting for the NHS to sort out the medical side of the original pain, but whilst I’m waiting I can do something positive about it, thanks to Lisa. There have been other benefits too. I’ve found I can now drive long distances without getting sciatica; I can stand, without pain, for pre dinner party drinks; I can sit comfortably for longer; and I have not dislocated my ankles since I’ve been having lessons with Lisa. I love the sense of well-being that I feel as I walk out of Lisa’s door after a lesson. Thank you so much Lisa for all you’ve done!” Ali O, Salisbury
“I had 6 sessions of AT to help me with my posture. Lisa Harris guided me to adopt better postures using gentle touch and her voice. I’ve become more aware of how I sit and stand. I use the guidance Lisa gave me to maintain my posture, which helps to relieve discomfort and to avoid it in the first place. An unexpected benefit was the improvement in my yoga: by bringing some of Lisa’s instructions into my yoga poses, I achieved an increased range of movement, which was very satisfying. Lisa was skilled in her teaching methods as well as being good humoured and approachable. Thank you Lisa!” Ross N, Salisbury
“What Lisa does is very simple, very gentle and very relaxing and yet every time I’ve had a treatment I feel like I’m walking taller, my movement is more fluid and, amazingly, my back is pain free.” Liz E, Southampton
